Happy weekend party people! This past Wednesday my bestie/fellow blogger babe Katie and I went on the best (even if it was short) road-trip to Franklin, TN to check out some spots we had been excited to see. Hewitt Garden & Design Center was our first stop and man was it awesome. Yes, I'm one of those girls that gets super excited about plants. And no, I don't care. When I first got in the car to drive 3o minutes to see some plants I thought why am I doing this but as soon as I got out (dripping sweat in this scorching southern heat may I mention) I was in absolute heaven. This place has greenhouse after greenhouse with every type of plant you could want - house plants, tropical plants, hanging baskets, and most importantly succulents. And I'm not talking a little stand of succulents like what Lowe's or Home Depot has. I'm talking big ass cactuses you see in Arizona or Texas. Super cool and I wanted to buy every single one of them. I opted to buy one of the littlest ones, but that's besides the point.

So what really is the big deal about succulents these days? I don't want to be the person to say "I liked that before it was cool," but seriously I liked these guys before they were really cool. There are four reasons why I love succulents so much, and why I will always have a few scattered around my home and outdoor living spaces.

1. Succulents are low maintenance (and when I say low I mean the lowest it can get for an actually living plant). Most succulents take water every 2-3 weeks and can survive inside or outside, which makes them super easy to take care of and the perfect choice for your first plants to get.

2. Succulents are very affordable. This past weekend I went to a garden center to look for an indoor plant and they were ranging up to $60, which is totally fine for some people, but that's not where I want to be spending my money. Choose to hit up the succulent section? Go home with a family of prickly friends for around $20 total. That's my kind of plant.

3. Succulents are extremely unique looking and can be found in a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. This makes buying succulents fun - some flower, some have needles, some have stripes. I might be weird but when I buy a new cactus I feel like I'm actually bringing a new personality into the home - love it.

4. Succulents have a special talent of adding an instant boho effect to any interior. They are awesome coffee table or side table decor, look super cute in photos, and add a touch of character to a porch.

Tips for planting your succulents? Try planting in small hanging baskets and creating a wall display, planting in glass terrariums, or planting in something creative like a candle holder or mug!

I really truly felt like I was in a cactus heaven at Hewitt's (which you can probably tell from these photos). I can't wait to do some DIY projects with some of these bad boys. I'm really wanting to do a hanging wall display - so I will share that with you guys once it happens! Until then, I've linked some succulent merchandise/products because they are just too cute! Happy cactus shopping!
